Supremacy of Scripture
IXOYE acknowledges the Supremacy of Scripture, that is, the Holy Bible. Rather than provide a lengthy explanation, I will pull from Scripture some of the more pungent passages that are the foundation for our support of this view. For those looking for a more in-depth apologetic, I strongly urge you to read “The Supremacy of Scripture” article by John Drane.
Possibly the most succinct declaration from God’s word of the authority of scripture,
Possibly the most succinct declaration from God’s word of the authority of scripture,
Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error anddiscipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), So that the man of God may be complete and proficient, well fitted and thoroughly equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (AMP)
God Himself has given scripture its importance,
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. – Psalm 138:2 (NKJV)
Jesus warned that God’s word supersedes tradition,
Thus you are nullifying and making void and of no effect [the authority of] the Word of God through your tradition, which you [in turn] hand on. And many things of this kind you are doing. – Mark 7:13 (AMP)
And the entirety of Scripture from beginning to end is valid,
The entirety of Your word is truth, and all Your righteous judgments endure forever. – Psalm 119:160 (HCSB)
Translations
Our approach to translations is similar to our approach to denominations; We do not regard one higher than another. For those who wish to dispute this stance we defer your arguments to Romans 14. It is up to the personal convictions of each member to determine for themselves which translation they wish to use. For teaching within our group, we urge our members to use translations which can be readily understood by a general audience. If God can preserve His Word for thousands of years we have every faith He has continued to do so.
As my former pastor once said,
As my former pastor once said,
“The best translation is the one you can understand.”
